I was inspired to write about Snapchat as my auto ethnography because as a student I can see the change in structure of social media with the growth of this smart-phone application. Hence I'm focusing on putting myself and my experience to create larger awareness among the general public. This idea was based of Carolyn Ellis's description of ethnography.
Her book talks about contextualising auto ethnography within ethnography which is the feature I am focusing on for this webpage. My context has influenced my vision to spread the word about this major revolution. Moreover, the interview techniques I learnt from the book help me choose the best option to explore my topic. After analysing all of them, I took the interactional approach for the interview that stimulates response from the interviewee by creating connections through stories. The connection that was dealt with here was that all of us were frequent users of Snapchat. Therefore, Ellis has explored and provided us an insight into how exactly each interview approach is essential in bringing out the best from interviewees.
